When two loves meet
I love watching the Academy Awards. I am interested in the movies, but I see very few before they are available on DVD. So, mostly it's about the EVENT of it all. I want to see who is wearing hootchie, who arrives together and who is notably absent. This year, I want to see who will try to incorporate the boho look into a formal gown. I want to hear the speeches of the so very breathless, and count how many people make unnecessary political commentary while the music is shooing them off the stage.
I find that while watching events like this, I also want to know what is coming and who I'll see next. This is where another love comes in - the spreadsheet. To make my viewing more enjoyable, I've made a spreadsheeet that will make the tracking even easier, and allow me to anticipate the stats and the presenters with the greatest of ease.
I'm having a tough time figuring out what I might want to track this year, so I've attached the spreadsheet for your review. If you have any ideas of things I might want (or you might want) to know... let me know and I'll see if I can add it before the red carpet rolls out. Here's an overview of what is available in the spreadsheet so far:
1. 2005 Academy Award nominees/winners: The tab serves as a reminder of last year's event, and will tell you who will present the next award. The winner of last year's category will present the award to the winner this year, in opposite categories. For example, Jamie Foxx will present the award to the nominee for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
2. 2006 Academy Award nominees: This tab includes a list of nominees in each category, thumbnails of each person/film, links to people (from the image), links to the movie in Netflix so you can easily add it to your queue if you so choose. For those of you who don't subscribe to Netflix, this link can still be useful to you if you want to see the trailer for the movie.
My next step will be to add something that will show how many nominations a single film has compared to the awards it receives. Maybe a pivot table. Any thoughts?
For those of you who share my two loves and want more, more, more...check out the stats and resources available through the Oscar database.

Now all you have to do is stay up late enough to actually watch the show!
