Walking injury

Over the past few months I've been trying to exercise more frequently.  As I've been exercising more often and for longer periods of time, my knee has really started to hurt.  Last week, it hurt quite a bit so I made a doctor's appointment to get it checked out.

After a brief discussion of the ailment and a quick exam of my leg, here's the conversation I had with my doctor.

Doctor (pulling his pant leg up over his cowboy boot and showing me a muscle on his leg): Flex that muscle.

   Me: What muscle?

   Doctor: This one.

Me: What do you mean? I don't know how.

   Doctor: Just try.

Me:  (Gasp) I don't have that muscle!  I have a wimp leg!

Turns out that I have built up muscles on one side and the top of my knee, but not the other side.  So, instead of having muscles on all sides that hold my knee in place, it gets all shifty and starts to hurt after awhile.  Nothing that a quick lesson in physical therapy can't fix.

Note:  Obviously, this explanation is totally not a medical one.  So, if you're a medical person and look at my diagnosis, don't think my doctor is a crackpot.  If my explanation is flawed, it's merely a reflection of my understanding of medicine.  And my knee.  She's a wily mystery.
