One year old and bellied up to the bar
Yesterday Sophie refused to sit in her high chair. By this I mean as I put her in the high chair she arched her back to the point that I had no choice but to set her on the floor or drop her to the floor. After I set her on the floor, she got up and ran over to the kitchen counter barstool and tried to climb on up. I figured this day was coming, I just didn't expect it so soon.

I remember when Martin was about 18 months old, he did the same thing. No more high chair for him, he was a barstool man from there on out. I suppose Sophie started earlier because she's a girl and also wants to do whatever Martin does. But it was still a surprise.
Now I have all this room in the kitchen where Sophie's high chair used to be. I can empty the dishwasher and put something in the garbage without moving Sophie out of the way. I can see both kids at the same time, parked next to each other, and see what they need. I can also see them trying to eat each other's food, poking at each other, and switching cups (Martin's idea after his drink was gone and he wanted more). It's the end of an era. My baby is no longer a baby. Boo hoo.
On the table tonight: Cajun Salmon Cakes with Lemon-Aioli, asparagus and baby red potatoes. With both kids sitting at the counter, and me crying in my beer.

My how quickly things change. It was just a couple of weeks ago when I was there and Sophie was content to sit in her high chair for hours in the morning and play w/ the clean dishes coming out of the dishwasher.
