Guiding light
For Martin's birthday, we bought him a headlamp. It's the kind that a guy might wear if he were camping... and in his case, that means camping in the living room in the turtle tent.
When I was in college, Sevda and I both had headlamps. They were great for reading in bed, looking under my bed for shirts (which also required an excavator), drawing outside at night, and illuminating our path as we walked from one cabin to another. I figured a little guy ought to have one too. Start to prepare himself for the future. So far, he's only using it to temporarily stun our vision, I should have picked a light that wasn't so bright. They should have some kind of lighting guide on the packaging, like:
Level A: Nice and dim
Level B: Bright enough to read in bed, although may cause minor eye strain
Level C: Bright enough to cause temporary blindness
Level D: Bright enough for Marty to read in bed
On the table last night: Diner Meatloaf Muffins, carrots & potatoes, finishing with Juicy Apple Crisp*
On the table tonight: Sesame Chicken Edamame Bowl
On the nightstand: How to Be Lost, Amanda Eyre Ward (I just started it, and so far it is very good. Thanks for sending it, Sevda)
*I'd make the apple crisp again, but I'd put it in a 8 x 8 pan instead, I think it would get juicier and the topping would probably cover all the apples.
Late breaking news (posted at 5:27PM): The sesame chicken was boring, boring, boring. Martin picked everything out of it except for the chicken and the rice, and still said it was gross. This, from a boy who consideres taco sauce a good meal. I'm sure there would be ways to spice up this dish, but I'm not going to bother.

Jennie, I'm glad to see your training Martin early on all the usefulness of a head lamp. By the time he gets to Ruttgers he'll know how important it is to have one so that you can carry the maxium number of "beverages" and not have to worry about taking up a hand w/ a silly flashlight!
