Selective review

I wasn't able to watch much of the Academy Awards on Sunday, but did bribe Sophie into watching bits and pieces with me.  We had apple tea (that bought me almost five minutes), pretzels (another three), and a banana (six minutes).  I got her to lay in bed for a bit (about ten minutes) which worked until Will Ferrell and friends performed their number, causing Sophie to get up and dance, ending awards viewing and starting the dance party.  I did get to watch the last hour or so after everyone at my house had gone to bed, and really, that's probably enough to cover most of the highlights.

Moments before the show started, I filled out my official ballot - marking the people/films I wanted to win with a "P" for "pick", noting others with a "W" for the ones I expected would actually "win".  In categories where I didn't know anything about any of the nominees, I choose the ones I thought would be most "Oscar-esque".  My approach was about as successful as it is when I use it for football picks.  Here's how I ended up:
Picks - 8
Winners - 7
Losses - 9

Not too bad at all.

Since I didn't get to see any of the red carpet coverage or that much of the show, I feel underqualified to comment on dresses or styles.  But, in the coverage I did see, I can safely award the following:

Best Dressed: Tie, awarded to Cate Blanchett and Anika Noni Rose (the red dress she wore during her performance, you may not have noticed it because you were distracted during the performance as you waited to see if Jennifer Hudson's gals were able to free themselves)
Worst Dressed/Shaven: Awarded to Oscar-giving pair, Kirsten Dunst (for use of an unnecessary collar) and what's-his-name from Spiderman (who forgot to shave and really should have because his beard looked a bit like my legs do when I shave with an old Bic razor in our dimly lit shower).

I totally agree with your best and worst dressed picks.

For what it's worth, Elizabeth said "oooooo, wow" in response to J-Lo and Penelope Cruz on E! Fashion Police. For a one-year-old, she has quite a keen eye for fashion.
