Happy Birthday Grandpa Pack

Last year, my dad had a big milestone birthday.  There was a party, green beer, and dancing (even if it wasn't by my dad).  Some people might have a hard time with the year after a milestone - like, "Oh... sixty-one.  One year past sixty."  But not my dad.  His view is more like "Sixty-one, your numbers mean nothing to me."  Here he is (in red), days before his 61st birthday, teaching Martin how to build a snow fort and how to pummel me with snowballs:

This was just days after returning from a trip where he and my mom hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back.  This after a year of trips taken during his partial retirement, where he went camping, elk hunting, golfing, fishing, hunting, and playing.  Age is relative, and when it comes to my dad, it has nothing to do with years.

Happy birthday, dad.  We love you, even when we can barely keep up with you.

Age does mean something. Your 10th birthday is a big deal. Double digits is important. Turning 13 and becoming teenager was a milestone. The 21st birthday is a big deal. All the birthdays between 21 and 65 are meaningless. The next important age is 80. Per my mother and grand mother you become old at age 80. Age 90 is eventful as that is when I will start smoking and drinking lots of gin.

Happy LATE Birthday, Pat. No one sets up a kid to smash a cupcake by accident like you do. Wish we could see how close YOU can get to a cupcake without touching it in honor of your unimportant day.
