Sometimes motherhood is about setting aside my own gag reflex and germ phobias

This weekend dad and Marty went pheasant hunting. They had good luck and came home with a few birds. Martin and Sophie went outside to help clean the birds. Martin has done this before, so he wasn't shy about pulling the pheasant out of the bag.

Martin asked my dad to show him what the bird had been eating. A quick slice revealed that the menu at this last supper was corn:

I thought Sophie would be squimish about picking up the bird. She is, after all, my child. Not to be outdone by Martin, she picked it right up. I asked her what it was like. "Well, it's soft. And it can't walk."

I only said "ewww!" once and I didn't even make them change their clothes when they came inside. I did, however, make them scrub their hands like they were prepping for surgery.

ditto on the corn shot. I was never any help in the cleaning game area, although I might have been used as a bird dog in my youth by the boyfriend. They are such beautiful birds...and tasty too!

I am quite shocked that you WERE able to take those photos, Jen! Also, what's wrong with the corn? Made a nice side dish for dinner!

You had to know I wouldn't let this one go. My kids always want to see what the turkeys Phil shoots eat - flowers, bugs, rocks and grasshoppers. This doesn't even seem strange to me.
