I want to ride my bicycle

Last year Sophie was barely interested in riding her bike.  She was kind of afraid to move on her own, only sitting on the bike when I was holding onto it.  This year though, it's a very different story.  She hops on and off the bike, riding it around in circles, singing to herself and hauling her babies in the bike basket.  Saturday when we were at mom and dad's, she took full advantage of the wide open spaces to ride like the wind.

She's a free spirit, this one.  Take notice of the hair style she created to allow her to fully concentrate on bike ridin'.

I'm hoping that pretty soon I'll capture Martin's bike riding skills on video.  He's cruising without training wheels, and this weekend learned to start and stop all on his own.  He also learned how to put out his hands to keep himself from cracking his head on a mailbox, and how to fall in a ditch to avoid driving into a creek.  Good lord.

She is sooo cute! Love the bandana. BoyChild is 7 and still can't brake on his bike. He does the jump-ship method into the grass which cracks me up.

Wow! She is fast on that thing. What a cutie. Looks like she's having a blast.

I'm wondering about bike helmet laws in your neck of the woods? I'm in Ontario, Canada, and it's mandatory here, which is a really good thing I think. Too many times I've seen bad accidents with little munchkins, from something as simple as a small stone flipping them over the handle bars. And yep, it's about as bad as you can possibly imagine. Pavement and heads are not good combinations really.

Loved the bike ride video. With all the rules and regulations today it is a miracle we all survived childhood, no helmets or shin guards, walked every where with no fear of being kidnapped, car seats weren't invented yet so we packed everyone into the car. I had plenty of skinned knees and stubbed toes from running barefoot and I wouldn't change a thing!
