The short and long of it

The Short of It
Marty's surgery on Wednesday was successful.  The surgeon was able to quickly identify the source of his pain - a part of the joint that should have been solid and stable was wiggly.  The good news was that the issue was obvious and that they could fix it.  The bad news is that it took eight months for Marty to convince his doctors that something was not right.  Water under the hip replacement bridge.

The Long of It
We think maybe the replacement device may be a bit longer than the other one.  How can we tell, you ask?  His right leg is LONGER THAN BEFORE.  If you are suddenly taller, it's great.  But only on one side?  Not so good.

We're back home and getting into the groove of healing and being at home.  Martin has had a mystery fever, but it seems to be responding well to Tylenol so that's good.  Really good, because I need his help today in running the lawn mower.  We're kicking off today with the first of our Aromantherapy sessions - Shredded Pork Sandwiches.  And because yesterday was Marty's birthday, we're going to whip up some cupcakes.  We're going to try these- because nothing says "I am 39 and just had my hip re-replaced" like over-the-top cupcakes.

Thank you to all of you for your good thoughts, prayers, and well-wishing emails.  It meant a lot to both of us to have our family and friends behind us.  Except not literally behind us, because he did have to wear a hospital gown and I think you know what the view from behind would be.

I'm so glad his surgery went well, but I'd be a little weirded out by the longer leg. My father-in-law had problems with that after his hip-replacement and has to get special shoes made to make up for the difference. Poor guy.

Glad to hear he is on the mend. As for that longer leg. Maybe it will give him a bit of a swagger - like a John Wayne thing?

I imagine that if one leg is a little longer than the other that it builds in a slight lean. I certainly hope that after his surgery Marty doesn't lean to the left.
Jennie, I ask that you watch Marty very closely. If he starts professing strange political thoughts he should be rushed to the shoe repair shop. At the shop have the repairman install lifts in his shoes so that he thinks more clearly.
A number of years ago I heard of a surgery that would cause you to lean to the left, but as I recall it involved removal of a large portion of your brain.

I love you, Man. You are funny. Maybe that is where Jennie gets it...

For the record, we had a party here for Marty (cleverly disguised as a party for Grace). And we made cupcakes. For Marty (Grace).

Will having one leg longer than the other make him walk in circles?
