Thanksgiving Tales
Five short stories about Thanksgiving by Martin Nelson. They combine fact, fiction, repetitive words to place emphasis, and all end it "The end" to let you know when they're over. They are divided into Chapters because, according to Martin, that's what the really good stories do.
Chapter 1: Has the Pilgrim Shot the Turkey?
The turkey ran fast as he could and the Pilgrims were trying and shot the turkey. They tried and tried and they couldn't do it. The Pilgrim people were trying to shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot. And then the turks couldn't rush so they just let them shoot them. It was the first Thanksgiving.
The Pilgrims and the Indians took fish and broccoli. The Indians were strong, strong, strong. They helped the other ones learn how to be strong. And that's what really happened.
They shot the turkey because they don't know why but they wanted to have dinner, so they just shot a wild one. But still, they had to shoot it.
The end.
Chapter 2: The Mayflower
The Mayflower was on a big ocean and it would take days, and days, and days, and days to try to get through. There were a hundred ships and the Pilgrims tried but they just couldn't find dry land. And so they had to kind a like do some stuff like eat food. By then, they were close to Plymouth Rock, and that's where they parked it. They left it there and they had the first Thanksgiving.
The end.
Chapter 3: The Power Ranger Thanksgiving
One day the Power Rangers and the Indians were sailing together and they tried, and tried, and tried, and tried, and tried, to find Plymouth Rock so they could park. They had been there before but this time they said they would move the Plymouth Rock to the other side because it was so foggy. They thought they were kidding but they weren't. So they had to find it, but they couldn't.
The rest of the Power Rangers were at Plymouth Rock so they shot up a laser as a signal and they kept shooting to make a signal to the other Rangers.
The end.
Chapter 4: The Parade
One day it was Thanksgiving and we had a parade. It went on and on and on and it was so long that we slept. Grandpa brought the fireworks. We ate turkey, mashed potatoes, corn and onions. To drink - milk for everybody. We played sharks and minnows and the grown ups are the sharks and kids are the minnows. If the kids get tagged, they go with the grown ups.
The end.
Chapter 5: 421,509,768
That's how many years they were stuck on the dry land and the ship was broke. They had to cut down trees the whole time to fix the boat because a shark ate the bottom and they had to go in a baby boat.
The end.

Martin might have inherited his excellent story telling skills from his Grandpa Mitchell. A talent he will use the rest of his life for the entertainment of others!
