Roll him over, lay him flat.
A few months ago, Martin started his first season in a winter sport - one he chose, I think, without totally understanding it - wrestling. It became apparent, after the first few practices, that he had a few misconceptions about wrestling which I think stemmed from TV and quite possibly Wii boxing.
The youth program here has been terrific. For the first few weeks the practices were run by the varsity coach who taught the kids the very basics, especially how to hustle and follow instructions. Martin is definitely getting the hang of some of the moves, but I can honestly say that I don't think he completely gets the concept of a match. I think he likes the physical part of it and he seems strong enough, but he does not like the pain. One time I heard him call over to Sophie to come help him get out of a tough spot. Another time, he chose the tactic I'm sure he learned on Tom & Jerry - running around in a circle - to avoid his opponent. And just yesterday I heard him tell another kid to take it easy on him because he just had back surgery.
And now that I've just admitted those last three things, I can tell you my dad is probably on his way here to run a Grandpa Pat Bootcamp for Wrestlers Who Never Call to Their Little Sister For Help.

Look at Martin's perfect stance in that top photo, a natural. Oh, I laughed so hard when I read the parts about calling out to his sister for help and his recent back surgery. Yep, Grandpa Pat might be headed your way!

I'm thinking he is wearing Iowa State wrestling shoes (Cael Sanderson) which will help him a lot.
